The long wall by Hanworth House facing Kennington Park was depressing to look at and was regularly graffitied. Professional street artists were appointed to get the community involved in painting and transforming the wall.

Frederick Road railings and gate

Frederick Road railings and gate
This parking area had been used for fly-tipping, abandoned vehicles, and drug dealing. Residents applied for funding to put a stop to this. Tall railings and a lockable entry gate were installed, making the area more secure for residents.

After consulting with local residents, an old ball court was demolished and a new play space built with input from children from St Joseph primary school. The area is now more open and welcoming for all.

Kirkwood Road nature reserve entrance

Friends of Kirkwood Nature Reserve care for this tucked away nature reserve - but for many years the entrance was blighted by regular fly tipping, sometimes with industrial waste. This end of the road has now been re-landscaped to prevent access to cars and fly tipping, creating a peaceful corner for Cossall Estate and other local residents.

An Elmington Estate resident applied for funding to put planters and trellises up the sides of this communal bulky waste bin store. Commercial businesses were fly tipping regularly, making the area look messy and depressing for residents. The new planting makes the area look cared for and no longer attracts commercial fly tipping.

Saint Marychurch Street oasis garden

Saint Marychurch Street oasis garden
The Time and Talents Association was awarded a self-delivery grant to re-design and re-plant this community garden. Their main aim was to reduce antisocial behaviour, increase biodiversity, promote community gardening, and make the garden more accessible. The grant funded materials while the work was carried out by T&T’s volunteers.
