College Road: Junction improvement

This scheme has been plagued with problems from the outset.

Delays have been caused by:

  • gas leaks in the area
  • UKPN faults
  • UKPN stats found in unexpected location not specified on stats plans, which then need to be re-located

These problems have accounted for approximately 3 months of delays to the scheme (compounded by the Christmas break).

It has meant that the proposed works programme and traffic management phases have been set aside and the contractors have had to react to the different issues as they arose. Without switching traffic management arrangements on a weekly basis, which would have caused must frustration and anger to the travelling public, there was practically nothing more that could have been done to reduce the delays to the works.

It's hoped that there will be no more major problems leading up to completion, as the site is closed for the Christmas break from this Friday (20 December 2019). Works will resume on 6 January 2020 with the completion of the new traffic islands before the new traffic signals equipment are installed and erected before the carriageway is resurfaced.

Provided all goes as planned, the new expected completion date of the works is approximately 14 February 2020.

We apologise for the delays to the scheme and thank you for your continued patience.
