Weed control and disposal

We're responsible to ensure all public highways, pavements and housing estate hard surfaces are kept weed free. We use a combination of manual, mechanical and chemical methods which pose no risk to humans, animals or other wildlife.

Japanese Knotweed

Japanese Knotweed spreads extremely quickly, prevents native plant life from growing and can damage structures due to its strong roots. It can reach up to 3 metres high and is bamboo like in appearance. Its leaves are heart shaped and it produces white flowers in the autumn months.

We do not offer a Japanese Knotweed removal service. If you have Japanese Knotweed on your property, contact a private contractor for advice.

If you notice Japanese Knotweed on Southwark Housing Estate, contact your resident services officer.

Do not try and cut it down, mow it or trim it. This will just spread the weed
Do not dispose of it in the general waste bins or mix it with other green waste. It has to be removed and disposed of by a licenced waste control operator
