Description

The event will include:

  • Organ music composed by GF Handel, played at the procession and consecration of St Peter's Church in 1825.
  • Music written by composer William Dance (1755-1840) who discovered Michael Faraday (1791 - 1867), later a renowned chemist and physicist. Dance provided Faraday with tickets to the Royal Institution lectures.
  • Songs from local Victorian music halls including "Good night Mr. Brown! I'm Out!" by Charles Collins and "King of the Elephant and Castle" by Barry Ono.
  • From the 21st Century - a song by Prince Monolulu (1881-1965), tipster, performer and entertainer, famous locally for his presence on East Street market along with three songs by Al Jennings including "West Indies Calling," to celebrate the life and work of Una Marson (1905-1965), after whom the new library on the Aylesbury Estate is named.
  • As the finale, the audience will be asked to sing-a-long, as we head to the Music Hall to "Don't Dilly Dally" by Charles Collins.

Tyrone Landau, pianist, will accompany Olivia Penhallow from The People's Company, Matt Meynell of the Walworth Community Pub Project and performer Rawlene Evelyn. Walworth Society researchers, Diana Cochrane and Neil Crossfield, provide the historical context as part of the Walworth Untold Stories Project with drama added by Tyrone on the piano.

Please book early on Eventbrite. The event is advertised as 'free'. However, we will be taking a collection for St Peter's fundraising project to restore the church. We would love to raise £1,000 - so suggest a donation of £5 per person.

Come early for a free cuppa or buy a glass of wine (again to support the church restoration fund).

Doors open 6pm. Performance starts at 7pm. The evening’s entertainment will end around 8.30pm.
