Every year, Greenland Dock Festival transforms South Dock Marina and surroundings into a mesmerizing spectacle of lights, that brings together a fascinating array of light displays, sculptures, and installations brightening up the winter evenings.

This is a publicly contributed event and not a council event. If you would like, you can submit your own event and have it appear on our website (subject to review).

-- The Whale: Fri, 06 Dec 2024, 18:30 - 31 Dec 2024, 20:00.
This is an art installation with ecological connotations, showing what happens with plastic bottles when thrown into the sea and where they can end up. The Whales measures nearly 9mts long by 2mts wide.
Re-cycling and re-using is a big part of our ethos.

-- Sleigh ride to the North Pole: Fri, 06 Dec 2024, 18:30 - 31 Dec 2024, 20:00.
This is a sleigh built and donated by a local business (Marine Canvas Hut) to Greenland Dock Festival and decorated by local residents (see pictures on our website).
This installation will be placed in Greenland Dock, where the public will have access to it.

-- Reflections of our community: Fri, 06 Dec 2024, 18:30 - 31 Dec 2024, 20:00.
This art installation is funded by the Neighbourhood grant (2024/2025) from Southwark Council.
It is an interactive sensory mirrored cube art installation, 2mts tall cube. The mirrors will reflect the lights and create an illusion of depth and shapes, reflecting the diversity and vibrancy of our community.

-- Dancing together - Ceilidh Night: Sat, 07 Dec 2024, 17hs.
This event is funded by the Cultural Celebrations grant (2024/2025) from Southwark Council.
A captivating live ceilidh band with a caller. They will get everyone on their feet, from gentle waltzes to foot-stomping jigs. The caller will ensure everyone feels comfortable joining in and provide free basic ceilidh dance lessons throughout the evening. Open to all and family-friendly atmosphere.
There will be a food stall and a mulled wine stall too.

-- Making Lanterns workshop and floating lanterns release: Sat, 14 Dec, 14:00 hs.
It is a workshop for building floating lanterns (Lock Keepers cottage, South Dock Marina). that will be released later in the evening, coinciding with the Illuminated Kayaks Parade.
The floating lanterns will be released on the 14 Dec around 17.40 hs .

-- Illuminated Kayaks Parade: Sat, 14 Dec, 17:00 hs.
The public will accompany us on foot enjoying the lights and singing sea shanties, while boat residents row around Greenland Dock, with the floating lanterns in the background.
The kayaks will be decorated with lights and the public is invited to participate in the singing, stomping, and dressing customs.

-- A Night of Carols at the Docks: Sun, 15 Dec, 18:00 hs.
We will be singing Christmas carols with a choir, beside the bridge that overlooks Greenland dock. It is now a classic of the festival and extremely well received by everyone.
The location allows for great acoustics and the carols can be heard from many different points around the dock.

-- Boat light competition - prize giving: Sun, 15 Dec, after the carols
The winners will be announced.

-- Floating Forest - 06 Dec 2024, 18:30 - 31 Dec 2024, 20:00.
Marvel at the dazzling display of lights and the reflection on the water.

-- Strike a pose! 06 Dec 2024, 18:30 - 31 Dec 2024, 20:00.
A huge, illuminated sign, which was repurposed and upcycled.

-- Boats Lights Competition: Fri, 06 Dec 2024, 18:30 - 31 Dec 2024, 20:00.
Lights are installed by boat owners in South Dock Marina.
The public will be able to see them from around both docks. Owners light them up, we can't plan the times for this.
