To mark Black History Month 2025, Parent Skills 2 Go, in partnership with Bizzie Bodies, will host a vibrant intergenerational community event themed ‘Building Futures from the Past: Standing Firm in Power and Pride’. Taking place in the heart of Southwark, this celebration will offer a joyful and thought-provoking exploration of Black identity, heritage, and creative resilience. Event Highlights 

Threads of Identity Fashion Show: A centrepiece performance showcasing African fashion’s evolution from heritage wear to modern reimagining’s, led by youth and local designers. 

Battle of the Jollof: Four cooks represent Ghana, Nigeria, Cameroon, and Senegal in a friendly, flavourful competition. Attendees sample dishes, learn recipes, and vote for their favourite. This activity fosters cultural exchange and culinary pride. 

Poetry and Storytelling: Powerful spoken word and storytelling sessions from elders, artists and young people around themes of heritage, struggle, pride, and hope. 

Live Music & Market: An uplifting atmosphere with music from African and Caribbean traditions, interspersed with modern Black British sounds, plus a market celebrating local Black entrepreneurship. 

The Exciting Launch of Our Young People’s Comic Book (6th Edition): ‘Identity in a Diverse World’. Our young people will present the comic book they co-produced this year, with the event serving as a celebration of their hard work. This annual publication is a vibrant showcase of their creativity, voice, and lived experiences. The 2025 theme, Identity in a Diverse World, explores how young people understand and express who they are in today’s multicultural, digital, and socially complex society.
