School uniform grants are for 11-year-olds, moving from primary school to a secondary state or a voluntary aided school in Southwark.

The grant is a £45 voucher. You can use the voucher at a few shops but not online.

The closing date for submitting clothing grant applications for the September 2025 intake has now passed (on 12 August 2025). You are no longer able to apply. 

Eligibility

To be entitled to a school uniform grant, you must receive one of the following benefits:

  • Universal Credit with an annual net earned income of no more than £7,400
  • Income Support
  • Income-based Job Seeker’s Allowance
  • Income-related Employment Support Allowance
  • Support under Part 6 of the Immigration and Asylum Act
  • the guarantee element of Pension Credit
  • Working Tax Credit run-on, paid for the 4 weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit
  • Child Tax Credit, with no Working Tax Credit and an annual income of no more than £16,190

Using your voucher

You can use the voucher at:

  • Whitehall Clothiers, 77 Camberwell Road, London, SE5 0EZ
  • APT Clothing Co, 26A Rye Lane, Peckham, London, SE15 5BS
  • The Stevensons Group (for Harris Academies only), The Old Spread Eagle, High Street, Epsom, KT19 8DN
  • Ark All Saints Academy, for children who will be in Year 7 at this school from September 2025

You cannot use the voucher online. 

It’s a good idea to contact these shops in advance to check that they stock your child’s school uniform before you apply for a grant.

Apply for a clothing grant

The closing date for submitting clothing grant applications was 12 August 2025. Any applications received after this date will not be processed by the school benefits team.

When the grant reopens, you will need to do the following:

You need to be able to submit a copy of a letter showing that you receive one of the benefits. 

For Child Benefit you’ll need a letter and a bank statement.

If you’re a refugee or asylum seeker, you’ll need a letter from the relevant authority confirming entitlement.

Your evidence must show:

  • the same home address as stated on the clothing grant application
  • dated within the past 6 months
