Water advice and support

You may think it's always raining, but water isn't as abundant as you think so it's important not to waste it.

Use our top tips to make sure your school isn't being water greedy and save money at the same time.

Start simple

Water saving measures are the simplest, cheapest actions with the biggest impact.

Install save-a-flushes in every toilet and waterbutts on your downpipes. Get these resources for free or at a discount from Thames Water.

Teach pupils how to save water

Get everyone involved

It's hard to encourage people to save water, so design and film adverts to persuade everyone to do their bit.

Raise money and awareness

Run a fundraising campaign for Water Aid and make use of their educational resources at the same time.

Conserve water in the garden

Find out how to be water conscious in your school garden from the Sunshine Garden.

What we can achieve

We can reduce average water use per pupil, per year from 11m3 (secondary schools) or 7m3 (primary schools) to only 4m3. An average school could save £1,100 per year by careful water management.
