Who the courses are for

A course for those wanting to develop creative skills in photography and get to know their digital camera. Technical side is aimed at beginners but more experienced are welcome who want to develop creative compositions and ideas and don’t mind looking at the basics.

Course location

We will meet at a range of outdoor locations to carry out photoshoots looking at different aspects of composition. Some classes will be at the Thomas Calton Centre computer suite to process digital images and discuss work.

What you'll learn

Create interesting photographic compositions and in camera effects, discuss and identify the work of famous photographers, get to know your digital camera and produce a final set of work. Explore techniques and what your camera can do.

How courses are taught

Technical demonstrations, group discussions, tutorials, looking at photographers work. Use handouts to understand your particular phone or camera. You will use an individual learning plan to monitor your progress.

Materials you'll need

A digital SLR camera is preferable but a smartphone or compact camera may be used.

After the course

You will have increased confidence in making and talking about your work. You can progress onto other Photography and Art courses at Southwark Adult Learning or other institutions. Past learners have gone on have exhibitions or progressed onto a range of courses

Please pay in full when you enrol and bring along proof of identity and evidence of entitlement to concessionary fee and £5 annual registration fee.
