What you'll learn

Personal Development painting studio

This course is designed to give time and space to develop 2D work in the medium of your choice, within a supportive and explore subjects or themes of your own choice. Regular group discussions will allow for feedback and from the tutor and other students. The studio space is full of light with a library of art books and a computer for research. The course is perfect for anyone wanting to further their development who may not ordinarily have the space or time to produce work.  

Watercolour painting/personal projects

For the experienced or amateur watercolourist, this course aims to refresh watercolour techniques and processes with a view to creating a series of paintings in the subject matter of your choice, such as, landscape or urban cityscapes, still life or other observational painting, or watercolour abstraction. The tutor will set a series of exercises for the first session and then aim to do demonstrations and one to one tuition with each learner's personal project.

Expressionist Landscape Painting

Spend two Saturdays considering the processes of artists who produce expressive landscapes. Bring personal source material to the studio and use watercolour, oils or acrylic paint to create expressive images. You may decide to work on one large piece or several smaller studies, depending on your choice of medium. The tutor will aim to help everyone focus on their own subjects as well as facilitate group discussions in this supportive studio environment.

Materials you'll need

  • materials for this course will be the responsibility of the student to bring whatever they wish to use
Please note that solvents of any kind are not permitted in the studio. However, solvent-free use of oil paints is possible and can be demonstrated. 

After the course

  • you can take further Adult education art courses
  • past learners started businesses, progressed to degree courses and employment
