Upcycle, re-style, repair – bring new life to your old clothes

Learn how to breathe new life into your favourite clothes by altering, repairing, re-styling and upcycling them.

Timetable, fees and enrolling

Learn how to breathe new life into pre-loved clothes by altering, repairing, re-styling and upcycling them.

Basic machine sewing skills are an advantage but not essential.

Become more confident discussing your work and improve your time management skills.

What you'll learn

Bring your pre-loved garments and learn how to:

  • turn them into something completely new
  • repair them
  • alter them to a specific fit
  • solve basic problems, like changing a zip or mending a hem (sewing first aid)

How the course is taught

Courses are tutor-led with demonstrations and one-to-one support.

Tutors will advise on a scheme of work for individual projects.

You'll support and learn from each other through group discussions on work in progress and finished work.

What to bring

You should bring a:

  • folder
  • pen
  • pencil
  • notebook

We will supply basic materials for this course but you can bring your own garments.

You'll get more information as the course progresses.

After the course

On completion, you can progress to further fashion, textiles or crafts courses at City Lit or Morley College.

Former students have gone on to start businesses, or into paid and voluntary work.
