Peckham Library Square
For the past year, Southwark Council and Carl Turner architects have been working closely with the community to co-design the reconfiguration of the square in front of Peckham Library.
Two proposals were presented to the council, one retaining the Peckham arch and the other removing it. After much consideration, it was decided that removing the arch was the best option in the long term.
The proposal that's being taken forward is made up of two new buildings facing Peckham High Street and a new shared and landscaped public space in between. The buildings will be mixed use. One will house a new gallery space on the ground floor and homes on the upper floors.
The other building will also house affordable co-working space on the ground floor and new homes on the other floors. Over 35% of the new homes will be affordable and split into social rent and shared ownership.
