Peckham Is open for business

Rye Lane is at the heart of Peckham’s business community and its vibrancy. The Council is working to ensure the business community and vibrancy remains and thrives both during and after the closure of Rye Lane for gas network upgrades. We’re working with local businesses, cultural organisations and community leaders based in Peckham to support traders and small and independent businesses. Details are some of this work are below.

  1. #PeckhamIsOpen
    Calling all social media users to share your Peckham based highlights at #PeckhamIsOpen. Share your stories of the people and places in Peckham that make it great.
     
  2. Rye Lane events and activities programme
    Funding provided by the council and SGN is supporting a programme of free events on Rye Lane and adjacent streets in 2019. Each event or activity aims to increase footfall and spend on Rye Lane. Events are being held by local people and organisations. Details of events can be found here. They include art, music, fashion, food, wellbeing and more. A sample of the events includes:
     
    • Businesses Support Manager
      A Business Support Manager, Ben Stephenson, has been appointed to support businesses on Rye Lane and streets nearby which are impacted by SGN. Ben’s primary role is to support businesses make compensation claims to SGN for loss of profit. Ben will also assist engagement between businesses and stakeholders in the area including the council and will consider how to support a sustainable business network in Peckham over the longer term.

    • Peckham Business Forum
      A Business Forum has been established for Peckham. The forum meets every 1 to 2 months to collectively share experience and ideas for supporting the local economy.
