Elephant and Castle
We're leading a £3bn regeneration programme in Elephant and Castle, which will create a new exciting destination for London over the next 15 years.
The regeneration will:
- include the creation of a new pedestrianised town centre, market square and 5,000 new/replacement homes
- include the creation of up to 450,000 square feet of retail space, an integrated public transport hub and new green spaces
- benefit local people by offering them a dramatically improved physical environment with tree lined streets, high quality open spaces and a largely traffic free environment; they'll also enjoy access to more local jobs and training opportunities, and new cultural and leisure facilities
To set out the overall plan for how development in the area should happen in the next 15 years, a supplementary planning document (SPD) for the Elephant and Castle opportunity area was created. You can find out more and get involved here.
For an update on the wider regeneration, view the Elephant and Castle place making October 2015 report submitted to our cabinet.
