St Olav's Square Public Realm improvements

St. Olav's Norwegian Church

Southwark Council and St. Olav's Norwegian Church are working in partnership to deliver an improved public space at St Olav Square. Planning permission was granted in March 2016 to transform St Olav's square into a flexible, safe and attractive public space. This space can be used by all of the community throughout the year and can potentially accommodate street markets and community events.

The delivery of these improvements will be a significant marker for the future of regeneration of Albion Street. It must therefore provide an improved, high quality and relaxed space that makes a significant contribution to Grade 2 listed St. Olav’s Church and the local area.

The proposed improvements will help to contribute to our aspiration for the regeneration of Albion Street into a pedestrian friendly, thriving mixed use parade including a school and an improved health centre.

Rotherhithe Library

The civic centre which housed the former Rotherhithe library services was closed to the public in October 2011 and replaced by the multi-million pound Canada Water library, just a five minute walk away.

Demolition of the former civic centre building has began, as part of our 11,000 new homes target and the Southwark Regeneration in Partnership Programme, new council homes will be re-provided on this site.

For more information on the site's proposals, visit the Southwark Regeneration in Partnership Programme webpage.
