Get help in a crisis or longer term support in person, by phone or online.

Maybe you're feeling overwhelmed with worries about work, money, relationships or your family’s health.

You may feel unable to cope, struggle to sleep or carry out activities, feel down, lack energy or feel lonely.

You're not alone. Help is available.

If you need urgent help for your mental health and you’re 18 or older:

  • contact the local South London and Maudsley NHS 24-hour support line on 0800 731 2864 (option 1)
  • call NHS 111 and select the mental health option

If you’re 17 or under and need immediate emotional and practical phone support:

  • call the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services Crisis Line on 020 3228 5980
  • call NHS 111 and select the mental health option

If it’s an emergency, call 999.

The Listening Place(link is external) provides free, face-to-face support for those who feel that life is no longer worth living. You can refer yourself to get their help.  

Call Samaritans(link is external) day or night, 365 days a year for free on 116 123.

Shout is a free, confidential, 24/7 text messaging support service(link is external) for anyone who is struggling to cope. Text “SHOUT” to 85258 to chat with trained volunteers.

The Papyrus HOPELINEUK(link is external) offers phone, text and email support for young people experiencing suicidal thoughts. Call them on 0800 068 4141, 9am to 12am 365 days a year.

Contact your GP for advice and referral to the right service.

The NHS in Southwark provides a talking therapy service(link is external) to support you if you’re struggling with low mood, stress or anxiety. If you're registered with a Southwark GP, you can contact the talking therapies Southwark service(link is external) or ask your GP to refer you.

Southwark’s Wellbeing Hub(link is external) provides support if you’re a resident or if you’re worried about the wellbeing of someone close to you. Call 0800 368 8433, 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday.

South-East London Mind(link is external) has a range of services in Southwark, including support groups for people struggling with low mood, stress and anxiety.

Southwark Community Sanctuary(link is external) is a safe, welcoming and supportive space for anyone over 18 years old experiencing emotional distress or in a crisis. 

Good Thinking(link is external) is a free digital resource that supports Londoners with stress, sleep, anxiety and low mood.

The Mental Health & Wellbeing Service(link is external) at Blackfriars Settlement offer a range of activities to help you connect with others, learn new skills and stay active. You must register with the Mental Health & Wellbeing Service by downloading and completing their form(link is external) to attend activities. Send your completed form to wellbeing@blackfriars-settlement.org.uk(link sends email).

The Nest(link is external) provides young people in Southwark with free and confidential mental wellbeing advice and support.

Kooth(link is external) is an online counselling service for individuals aged 10 to 25 years old to get free, anonymous mental health and emotional wellbeing support.
