Consultation update: The New Southwark Plan Proposed Submission Version: Amended Policies January 2019 was considered by Cabinet on 22 January and considered by Council Assembly on 27 March 2019. Formal consultation on this document ended on 21 May 2019.

The local plan is a set of borough-wide planning policy documents that contain:
- the regeneration strategy for the borough
- policies that are used to make decisions on planning applications
- key development sites with land use and urban design requirements
- visions for the each of the borough’s unique neighbourhoods

New Southwark Plan
The New Southwark Plan (NSP) will be a new borough-wide planning and regeneration strategy up to 2033. Once finalised and adopted, it will replace the saved Southwark Plan policies and the Core Strategy (see below).
The council has published the proposed submission version of the New Southwark Plan (pdf, 28.2mb) for informal consultation. The decision to go out for formal consultation was subject to council assembly approval on 29 November 2017. Formal consultation period closed on 27 February 2018.
We have consulted on the New Southwark Plan - Proposed Submission Version: Amended Policies (pdf, 11mb) until 17 May 2019.
After consultation, the council will submit the plan to a government planning inspector for examination.

2013 NPPF conformity review
Both the saved Southwark Plan policies and the Core Strategy were reviewed in 2013 to ensure conformity with the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF).
