New Southwark Plan

General information about the New Southwark Plan

The NSP will be a new borough-wide planning and regeneration strategy up to 2033. Once finalised and adopted, it will replace the current local plan, comprised of the saved Southwark Plan policies and the Core Strategy.

Consultation update: We're currently consulting on the New Southwark Plan Proposed Submission Version: Amended Policies January 2019. The document was considered by Cabinet on 22 January and will be considered by Council Assembly on 27 March 2019. Formal consultation is taking place until 17 May 2019.

A list of the questions from the Consultation Hub can be downloaded below for information. Comments will only be accepted via the Consultation Hub. It can be accessed here or at any local libraries and service point computers within Southwark. You can seek help from our trained staff regarding the consultation hub if you have any difficulties using it. Libraries are open Monday to Friday 9am to 8pm, Saturday 9am to 5pm, Sunday 12pm to 4pm. If you find difficulties using the hub and you're a resident, you can email us your response. Our move to encourage everyone to use the hubs enables us to provide the information on the responses quickly as we don't need to copy emails into the hub.

The proposed submission version of the NSP contains:

  • area visions - setting out the aspirations of the borough’s distinctive neighbourhoods
  • sites allocated for development across the borough with requirements on how they should be developed
  • planning policies for making decisions on planning applications and development proposals

Consultation on the New Southwark Plan: Proposed Submission Version (pdf, 28.2mb) closed on 27 February 2018.

Consultation on the plan was approved by cabinet on 31 October 2017. You can download the cabinet report here (pdf, 267kb) and the addendum to the cabinet report here (pdf, 73kb).

The decision to launch formal consultation was made by the council at Council Assembly on 29 November 2017.

After the Proposed Submission Version consultation, we'll submit the draft plan and all the comments received to the Secretary of State for a public examination.
