Conservation areas

Tower Bridge

The Tower Bridge Conservation Area lies immediately east of Tower Bridge Road, west along Shad Thames and south of the River Thames and Tower Bridge. The conservation area is largely characterised by the sense of enclosure derived from its warehouse heritage and reflects the intensification of the 19th century dockland. Despite more recent development in the heart of the conservation area, the street pattern and scale exhibited remains true to the 19th century arrangement. At the southern end, along Tooley Street and Tower Bridge Road, the aesthetic is more metropolitan in character, with more highly detailed architectural facades.
