Honor Oak Rise

The Honor Oak Rise Conservation Area is located on land lying on the southern boundary of Southwark, where it meets the Honor Oak Park area in the London Borough of Lewisham. Honor Oak Rise is indicative of 19th century ‘out-of-town’ residential housing, developing within an area that was predominantly farmland and woodland, sporadically developed with housing groups for rural workers, that has later been enveloped by the spread of suburban housing in the later 19th century and early 20th century. The area is notable for being adjacent to a historic area of semi-natural woodland on One Tree Hill, famed for its visit by Queen Elizabeth I, for which the original oak tree was planted on the hill-top.
