Burgess Park West
We have spent £3.5million on improving the south western area of Burgess Park, which was not included in the previous redevelopment work.
The new play area is now open and is located near the entrance to Rust Square on Bowyer Place.
Plans were developed, taking into account the results of four public consultations, and improvements include a bigger nature area, a play area and improving Rust Square with soft landscaping.
The project site covers Rust Square up to the underpass below Wells Way, including the section of New Church which was within the park and the nature area.

Opening event
On Saturday 22nd June 2019, the local community celebrated the official opening of Burgess Park West with the Deputy Mayor of Southwark and Councillors.
The London Wildlife Trust held bug hunts, families enjoyed a live drama performance from The Theatre Deli and Exquisite Folly Theatre, a moth release was undertaken by local children with help from the Butterfly Conservation Trust, and arts & crafts activities were run by the Friends of Burgess Park.
The event was a huge success and brought surrounding communities together to enjoy the beautiful park.
Road closure
The section of New Church Road that was inside the park closed permanently on 4 December 2017 and has now been removed from the park. Along with the greening of Rust Square, 1,350m2 of tarmac and other hard surfaces have been converted into soft green space.
The Quietway 7 route and other new paths will provide a link between Albany Road, Wells Way and Southampton Way. The new paths are 4m wide, lit at night and shared by everyone who uses the park.
