Request a change to parking restrictions

Ask the council to change parking restrictions where there is a parking problem.

If you have a parking problem, you can ask us to change parking restrictions. Most of the changes we make are due to dangerous or obstructive parking.

How to request a change to parking restrictions

Email the highways team at highways@southwark.gov.uk.

Send us details about:

  • your parking problem
  • the days and times the problem occurs
  • the cause of the problem
  • the solution to the problem
  • photos or other information that might help us solve the problem

What happens next

We will assess your request to see if the change is in line with local parking projects. If it is not, we may consider it for future parking projects.

We may consult local properties that would be affected by the change.

We will send a report about the problem to the community council.

If the community council approves the change, we'll propose a traffic management order (TMO). A TMO lets us make and enforce changes to parking arrangements.

During the TMO, we'll carry out a 3-week consultation through street and press notices. This is in line with the Local Authorities' Traffic Orders Regulations 1996.

If we receive an objection to the proposal, we'll send another report to the community council to find out what to do next. This might delay the change by around 2 months and could mean we do not make the change.

If there is no objection, we'll implement the change. It may take 4 to 6 weeks for us to install the signs and road markings.
