Roads around Borough Market

Information about our current programme of works close to Borough Market

On this page you can read about our current schemes that are close to Borough Market.

Bedale Street road safety scheme

What is proposed

This scheme includes:

  • pavement widening
  • raised crossings
  • safety bollards

Loading bays will be relocated onto streets around Borough Market and disabled parking bays will be relocated to Park Street.

If this scheme goes ahead, it will be a trial at first.

What stage we are at

Following a public consultation, recommendations are currently being made to the Cabinet Member for Clean Air, Streets and Waste. If these recommendations are approved the scheme will be built in November 2025.

Stoney Street public realm

What is proposed

This scheme includes:

  • raising the road to pavement level
  • resurfacing the road in quality materials
  • replacing the concrete blocks with strong security bollards

We will not be changing the current road-closure timings (10am to midnight).

What stage we are at

We are consulting on this scheme now as part of our Streets for People London Bridge-area engagement.

Following the consultation, a recommendation will be made to the Cabinet Member for Clean Air and Waste. If the recommendation is to proceed with the scheme, it will start in early 2026.

Road resurfacing

What is proposed

The following roads need resurfacing:

  • Park Street junction with Redcross Way
  • Stoney Street (Park Street to Winchester Walk)
  • Winchester Walk and Redcross Way

What stage we are at

This road resurfacing work will be done at the same time as the Stoney Street public realm work in early 2026.

Holistic approach

We are not just looking at the roads around Borough Market. We are also considering the impact of trading licenses and pedestrian flow in the area. We are working in partnership with Borough Market, residents and stakeholders.

What stage we are at

Following a meeting on 10 September 2025, an action plan is being written to address the issues raised. This will be shared with those who attended the meeting. Quarterly meetings will be scheduled with stakeholders.
