Statement from Southwark Council in response to planned march in London on Saturday 13 September, which is due to start in Southwark.

Cllr Jasmine Ali, Southwark Council’s Deputy Leader, said: “Southwark is a place that has welcomed people from across the world for centuries, a place in which people from all faiths, cultures and communities live, work and play side by side.

“Our diversity is our strength, not something to divide us. It’s what’s made our borough and city one of world’s top destinations for business, culture and the arts as well as visitors from all over the world.

“Southwark has a proud history of standing up for fairness, dignity, and inclusion. We stand together as one community and will not tolerate hate or division.

“We stand against far-right activists who seek to spread fear, uncertainty and hatred in our borough and across the UK. People seeking to spread division succeed only in bringing us together.

“To everyone living, studying, and working in our borough — you are welcome, you are valued. We are all Southwark.”

We encourage anyone who experiences or witnesses hate crime to report it to police or alternatively via https://www.report-it.org.uk/.
