Cllr Michael Situ is new Cabinet Member for Council Homes

Cllr Michael Situ

Today Cllr Situ pledged to put tenants and leaseholders at the heart of all the council does and to make delivering the council’s Good Landlord Plan his top priority.

He said: “Good quality council homes change lives and I am honoured to become Southwark Council’s new Cabinet Member for Council Homes.

“We have listened to what local people have told us matters most to them, and issues raised by the Regulator of Social Housing, and we are taking action to become a good landlord.

“We’ve recently approved our Good Landlord Plan to build better lives together and I will make delivering the plan our top priority.

“Above all I will make sure that we build trust with local people living in our council homes and estates and put them at the centre of all we do.”

The Good Landlord Plan focuses on what tenants and leaseholders have said matters most: better homes, better estates, better repairs, better customer service, a stronger voice for residents and new council homes. It was approved by Cabinet earlier this month.

Southwark Council is London’s biggest council landlord, with more than 37,000 council homes and around 16,000 leasehold and freehold homes.

Cllr Situ is a member of the council’s Audit, Governance and Standards Committee, and previously served as Cabinet Member for Community Safety and Mayor of Southwark.

He has been a councillor since 2010 and is a ward councillor for Old Kent Road.

He was appointed as Cabinet Member for Council Homes by Council Leader Cllr Sarah King, who herself served as Cabinet Member for Council Homes before she was elected Leader earlier this month.
