Celebrations as residents move into new council homes in Bermondsey

Rennie House

Southwark Council has welcomed residents into 49 brand new council homes at Rennie Estate in Bermondsey.

Built on an old car park, the new homes are in two blocks, and many are larger three-bedroom flats suitable for families.

As part of the new development the council also provided new facilities for residents including an outdoor gym, children's playground and better lighting at the back of the estate in line with local residents’ wishes.

Cllr Helen Dennis, Cabinet Member for New Homes and Sustainable Development, said,

“It’s wonderful to see these brand new council homes in Bermondsey completed with residents moving in. These new homes are spacious, light, with substantial outside space with fantastic views across the city.

“I’m proud that we have built these new council homes for residents in need and enhanced the existing estate for the local community.

“These new homes are among the 3,000 new council homes in Southwark that we have completed or are currently on site building.”

Catia, who has recently moved into one of the new council homes with her daughter, said,

“I’m really pleased with my new home and so happy to be living here. My daughter is autistic and we had been waiting a long time for a new home, the place we were living in before didn’t have enough space for both of us. My daughter is so much happier here and I really like living in the area, it’s worked out so well for us.”
