Five new council homes finished in Peckham residential street

Southwark Council has finished redeveloping an old set of garages on Fenham Road in Peckham to create five new council homes in a part two, part three-storey building.

The building was carefully designed to blend in with the surroundings and reflects the character of the Victorian terraces on the rest of the street.

This site is one of many which Southwark Council is redeveloping across the borough to provide much-needed new council homes for local people. Southwark is one of the biggest council homebuilders in the country, and has plans to start 1,000 more new homes by 2026.

Cllr Helen Dennis, Southwark’s Cabinet Member for New Homes and Sustainable Development, said “These much-needed new council homes are a boost for Peckham and will make wonderful new homes for local people.

“Providing safe, secure housing is one of our top priorities and I’m proud that we are making the most of underused spaces across our borough to create as many new council homes as we possibly can.”

In line with Southwark’s local lettings policy, at least half of the homes will be offered to local tenants already living in the immediate area, so they can stay close to friends, family and the services they already use. The remaining homes will be allocated to others on the council’s wider housing waiting list.
