Great results for Southwark’s children’s services

Southwark Council’s recent Ofsted inspection results, to 30 September, are now publicly available. The authority is rated ‘Good’ in all categories of its social care and safeguarding of children in the borough. The report highlighted that: “Children are at the heart of practice in Southwark. Social workers think about what is important for individual children and act without delay. In a challenging context, leaders have enabled significant investment to ensure that frontline staff have low enough caseloads. As a result, they have time to work intensively with families when needed, and to reflect and consider ways to improve children’s lives.”

Cllr Jasmine Ali, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Children, Young People and Education, said : “I am so proud of everyone in our children’s services who work tirelessly to support our most vulnerable children, young people and families in the borough, holding their hands through the hardest times in life, protecting them from harm and ensuring they have a safe, happy future ahead of them. The rating is testament to that hard work and focus on each young person as an individual, offering superb, skilful, bespoke care and support at every stage.”

A specific mention in the report was for the support to care-leavers: “Care leavers who spoke to inspectors expressed their gratitude to Southwark Council, their social workers and their personal advisers. They all talked about how well they had been supported across every aspect of their lives. They told inspectors that Southwark is a ‘special council’ and like family to them.”
