Camberwell Lodge Nursing Home officially opened last week (Friday 13 May) with Southwark Council and Country Court welcoming guests to a celebration event.

Visitors toured the nursing home’s many facilities, including a cricket-themed pub, hair salon, library, reminiscing room, and activity area. Each floor has its own lounge and dining areas where residents can enjoy afternoon tea with their guests, or socialise with friends. Residents can sit back and take in the stunning views of the London skyline from the hospitality suite on the top floor. The suite features a private dining room, bistro café and roof terrace garden.

The new home on Picton Street offers a mix of residential, nursing and dementia care. Before being redeveloped by the council, it was known as Burgess Park. Now, the number of beds available increased from 60 to nearly 100. All rooms come with private en-suite, walk-in shower rooms.

Camberwell Lodge is part of the council’s commitment to open new nursing homes as set out in the Borough Plan 20-22. Last year the council launched their Residential Care Charter – the first of its kind anywhere in the country. The Charter will result in better working conditions for staff and better quality of care for residents in all residential care homes within Southwark, including Camberwell Lodge.

Councillor Evelyn Akoto, Cabinet Member for Health and Wellbeing said: “It was amazing to see the ribbon being cut on our top quality new nursing home in the heart of the borough. I was blown away to see for myself all that Camberwell Lodge has to offer. It is such a welcoming environment with first-class facilities that I hope will help the new residents settle in and feel at home quickly.

“We are proud to be working with Country Court to ensure that people with care needs are able to stay close to their family and friends where they can also expect high-quality care. Camberwell Lodge has been designed around our residents’ needs, including those living with dementia. We look forward to them being supported to live healthy, active lives right in such a modern new home.”

Alykhan Kachra, Co-CEO of Country Court, said “We are delighted to open our flagship home in London. Camberwell Lodge has brought hundreds of jobs to Southwark and addressed the high demand for nursing care in the borough. As a family-run company, Country Court aspires to provide the kind of care every one of us would wish our loved ones to receive.”
