Country Court’s ground-breaking nursing home in Camberwell takes shape

18 September 2020

Development of a boldly designed new Nursing home in Camberwell is well underway, bringing hundreds of jobs to the area and addressing high demand for nursing care in the borough. Country Court are the national operators behind the new home which will specialise in nursing care, residential care, dementia care and short-term respite care for up to ninety-nine people. It will provide an affordable luxury care offering in Southwark, whilst retaining a sense of community. The care home has yet to be named and Country Court are asking for suggestions from people in the local area.

Commenting on the development Cllr Jasmine Ali, Deputy Leader of Southwark Council, said: “We want to help people to stay in their communities and near their families and friends wherever possible and this new nursing home will enable just that. Working with Country Court, an established care provider with an excellent record, we will soon be offering nearly 100 beds in this new Nursing Home. The home will offer a mix of residential and nursing care in the heart of Southwark, for some of the borough’s more vulnerable residents. The Council and Country Court are committed to meeting the needs of local residents and delivering high quality care, including to residents with dementia.

“We are invested in this exemplary, modern care facility and hope that it will be a wonderful home to all who live here and a great environment for the nurses and care workers who will be central to making it a happy home.”

The ground-breaking project has been developed in partnership with WGP Architects and features bold contemporary design and focus on creating a sense of community for residents.

“We are very excited about our latest nursing home development” explained Alykhan Kachra, Managing Director at Country Court “Our aim with this project is to create an environment that promotes healthy living and apply that to the design of our care home. By choosing to work with architects that have not worked on a care home before we have been able to approach the project from a completely new angle, while still reflecting our usual family and community-led approach to care.”

The result is a thoughtfully considered mixture of ‘fabric first’ interior, with careful use of natural materials and good light – both natural and artificial. The building plan features a central common space with atria linking between floors to give a sense of community.

The facilities in the home will be designed to make life comfortable and enjoyable, allowing people to live safely and as they choose; there will be numerous communal lounge and dining areas, roof terrace and themed activity spaces. The interiors will represent a marked departure from most care homes with careful positioning of mini-atria between compatible floors, and utilising a penthouse level for either pre-bookable private dining spaces in addition to a ‘club house’ that can serve either as an additional activity space or refined social space.

The new Nursing Home is part of the Country Court Group, a family-owned and run business founded in 1983, with the company philosophy “Our family caring for yours”. Country Court has won numerous Great British Care Awards. In 2015 the company was awarded Health Investor Residential Care Provider of the Year and is in the carehome.co.uk Top 25 Large Care Home Groups 2019.
