Southwark Council response to Biscuit Factory decision

Southwark Council has responded to the Mayor’s decision to approve Grosvenor’s application for the Biscuit Factory re-development in Bermondsey.

Cllr Johnson Situ, cabinet member for growth, development and planning, said: “We are disappointed with the GLA’s decision. Whilst we recognise the small improvement in the number of affordable homes the site will offer, this application still fails to meet the council’s policies for social and genuinely affordable housing.

“We believe the amount of social housing on offer could be a lot higher and it is disappointing that the application will now go ahead with so few genuinely affordable homes.

“Despite our disappointment, we will continue to work with Grosvenor to ensure the affordable housing and all the other benefits that can come out of the development do happen and are available to local people.”
