New council housing given green light for Dulwich site

Three new family-sized council homes – the first new council homes to be built in Dulwich as part of the council’s industry-leading 11,000 new homes programme – have been given the go ahead by planning.

The four-bedroomed homes are set to be built on the site of two old pre-fabricated bungalows on Underhill Road.

Cllr Leo Pollak, Cabinet Member for Social Regeneration, Great Estates and New Council Homes, said: “Southwark Council's ambition towards 11,000 council homes means not only building on large and small sites, but building in all parts of the borough, which is why I’m really pleased we’ve secured planning approval for new council housing on Underhill Road, the first of many council housing schemes we’ll be bringing forward in Dulwich.

"In this development we are replacing two small pre-fabricated buildings that are decades past their life span and replacing them with light, spacious family homes that will not only help house families in the area living in over-crowded conditions, but will free up many vacated homes that can made available for people on the housing waiting list.”
