Your guide to summer in Southwark

23 July 2018

The summer holidays are here at last, and for young people in Southwark, it’s promising to be a jam-packed summer of fun.

From BMXing to arts projects, crafts to cookery, music workshops to youth clubs there’s something for everyone right on your doorstep.

The council has launched a new resource, where young people, parents and carers can find out about everything that is available over the summer holidays in just a few clicks. As well as council funded activities, the website also captures activities run by local voluntary groups and theatres.

There are activities for all age groups as well as events focussed on children and young people with special education needs.

Cllr Evelyn Akoto, Cabinet Member for Communities and Public Health, said: “The summer holidays are a time for young people to recharge their batteries after the long school year, but no-one wants to spend six weeks sitting around with nothing to do. In Southwark there are plenty of reasons to get out of bed in the morning, to meet up with friends and have a great time.

“I’m really proud that we are able to offer such a mix of activities for young people in our borough. As wells as sports and creative activities, there are also sessions that focus on healthy lifestyles and career skills. The majority of the activities available are free or low cost so this gives everyone the opportunity to try something new, gain new skills, make friends and of course, have fun.”
