Southwark Council makes way for England’s push for the final

Southwark Council has announced that tomorrow (Wednesday 11 July) night’s Council Assembly meeting has been postponed until Wednesday 25 July so it does not clash with England’s semi-final World Cup match.

Cllr Catherine Rose, Mayor of Southwark, said: “After speaking with colleagues from both parties we agreed that to ensure residents did not have to choose between attending the meeting and watching England in their first semi-final for nearly 30 years it would be sensible to move the meeting.

“This will allow both councillors and members of the public to enjoy the match and then attend the full council assembly without distractions.

“All councillors and groups who were due to bring petitions or deputations to the meeting have been notified of the change of date and will have the same opportunities to speak at the rearranged meeting.

“The last thing for me to say, on behalf of the whole council, is come on England!”
