Southwark Multi-Faith Forum statement on the London Bridge attack

5 June 2017

Southwark Multi-Faith Forum Chair Musharraf Chaudhury said: "On behalf of the Southwark Multi-Faith Forum, I wish to express our deepest shock and sorrow at the horrific, senseless acts of terrorism that struck at the heart of our borough on Saturday night."

He continued: "Our thoughts and prayers go out to all those who have been affected by this dreadful attack, and to those who continue to work round the clock to offer support to those in need.

"Yet again we find ourselves, as a city and as a country, having to confront the evil of terrorism on the streets of our city. Yet again we find ourselves witnesses to tragedy.

"In the difficult days ahead, it is more important than ever that we come together, to support one another – united in the face of those who seek to divide us."

The message to all Southwark residents remains to be calm but vigilant. The police Anti-Terrorist Hotline is available 24 hours a day on 0800 789 321 if you see or hear anything suspicious which might be related to terrorism.

The council and police are working closely together to ensure a zero-tolerance approach to hate-crime of any kind. Anybody who experiences an incident of hate-crime are encouraged to report it to the police. More information around hate-crime reporting and support can be found online.

SMFF is the place for people to connect with others on inter-faith and multi-faith matters of common interest in London Borough of Southwark. It is co-ordinated by a multi faith team of volunteers, and is supported by Southwark Council.
