Outcome of Perronet House ballot regarding membership of the Leathermarket JMB

9 February 2017

The results of the vote to decide whether or not Perronet House in Elephant and Castle would join the Leathermarket Joint Management Board are as follows:

Tenants

  • 70 eligible voters
  • 54 voted
  • Turnout 77.1%
  • 24 (44.4%)  voted Yes to joining the JMB
  • 30 (55.6%) voted No

Leaseholders

  • 59 eligible voters
  • 49 voted
  • 46 (93.9%) voted Yes
  • 3 (6.1%) voted No

The process required that the following conditions were met:

  • A turnout over 50% - this was achieved
  • A majority of all those voting -  this was in favour of Yes
  • A majority of secure tenants – this was in favour of No

Given this the response is No to joining the JMB.

The ballot was run by the Electoral Form Society who independently verified the results.

Cllr Stephanie Cryan, Cabinet Member for Housing, said: “I know there have been strong feelings on both sides of the argument and that many residents will be disappointed with the result. However, under statutory guidance, the ballot required both an overall majority and a majority of secure tenants to succeed, and in this case the majority of secure tenants voted against the proposal.”
