Learning in libraries

Our libraries are committed to services that support your learning. Whether you're taking up a new hobby, learning about computers or gaining formal qualifications, we provide a range of activities and books to help you achieve your goals.

What you can learn

We offer free tuition from trained library staff (delivered in small groups or one-to-one in an informal environment and at a pace that suits you). These sessions can:

  • help you use a computer or tablet for the first time
  • teach you how to use the internet and email
  • help you job hunt online
  • help you study for your citizenship test online
  • help you study for you driving theory test online

How to book

Session times vary so please ask in any Southwark Library for further details and to book. You can also email our Library Development Officers, Katie Adams, Wes White and Moboshir Ali.

If you are not already a member of Southwark Libraries then please take a moment to join for free, either online or in the library. This allows you to borrow books and other materials to support your learning, as well as access to computers, tablets and Wi-Fi in the libraries.

Access to computers and the internet

In all Southwark Libraries (excluding Kingswood Temporary Library) you can book a PC or use the Wi-Fi for free. You can also borrow a tablet for use in the library at Canada Water Library, Dulwich Library, Peckham Library and Southwark Heritage Centre and Walworth Library. Scanning, printing, faxing and photocopying facilities are also available. All of our libraries are part of the national Online Centres Network, which has been set up to help you get online and give you local internet access.
