Southwark Scholarship Scheme 2022

Application process

The application process has four separate stages, please see below so you are aware of what this entails.

Stage 1: Expression of interest

Students applying to start university in 2022 must complete an expression of interest form to notify us of their interest.

Deadline for this is 11.59pm on 16 May 2022

Stage 2: University offers

Students who have expressed interest in our scholarship scheme and meet the eligibility criteria will be sent an email asking them to upload their provisional university offers received for the 2022 to 2023 academic year. You must upload these when the email is sent; the email will have a link to the online application portal.

Deadline for uploading university offers is on 30 May 2022

Evidence of offers sent after this date will not be considered.

Stage 3: Community statement and reference contacts

After students have uploaded their university offers, they'll be sent an email inviting them to upload evidence to support their application, including:

  • sixth form/college attended
  • academic qualifications
  • community statement
  • academic and community reference contact information
Deadline for uploading the above is Sunday 13 June 2022

Information submitted after this date will not be considered.

Stage 4: A-Level results

Students who have successfully provided their community statement along with supporting information and were able to arrange for two references (one academic and one from an employer/or community organisation) will be sent an email inviting them to upload their A Level or equivalent results/or confirmation of university acceptance.

Deadline for submitting this information is on Monday 15 August 2022

Results uploaded after this date will not be considered.

A panel will evaluate all applications that have completed each of the above four stages and will make a decision on the candidates to be shortlisted for the interview stage. Their decision will be based on the quality of the candidate’s community statement and references. The highest ranked applicants will be invited to attend a panel interview. This may take place via zoom if lockdown restrictions still apply. Otherwise they will take place in person in our Tooley Street office, Southwark HQ.

Financial checks

The final shortlist of applicants will be asked to provide supporting documentation to confirm their identity and household income. Original supporting evidence will be required to verify these (scanned copies will be acceptable for electronic submission).

Household income is defined as the combined income (including certain benefits) of all people residing in your household, including but not limited to; parents, siblings, other relatives, non-relatives etc. If the combined figure exceeds £25,000 per annum, you will not be eligible for the scholarship. If you have any questions regarding this, please email

Applicants, who make it through to interview shortlist will be invited to an interview on the first week of September 2022. The interview days are non negotiable. Shortlisted applicants must ensure they avoid booking any holidays during interview week.

Successful students will be notified and awarded their scholarships in September 2022. The fees will be paid directly to the university on an annual basis after reviewing the student’s status.

We encourage all applicants to have a reserve option to manage their student finance in case they are unsuccessful with the scholarship award.
