Our policy is to respect and protect the privacy of anyone who visits the Southwark Council's website.

Use of IP addresses

We collect IP addresses only for the purposes of system administration and to audit the use of our site. We do not link IP addresses to anything personally identifiable, which means that while your user session will be logged you will remain anonymous to us.

Use of cookies

You should note that cookies may be used on this website. Cookies are small pieces of information stored by your browser on your computer's hard drive. Cookies are used to keep track of your use of the website and provide you with customised content.

Personal information collected via online forms

Personal information will only be used for the purpose and timescale indicated and will be held securely. It will not be used for any other purpose without your permission and will not be kept for longer than necessary. The online forms system will also retain a copy of the data provided solely for the purpose of back up and will not be held for more than 6 months.  If you are concerned about providing your personal information online please contact us and we will arrange alternative means for you to provide this information.

Email Messages

We want to make sure that we are providing our citizens with all the services that they need. The council and its contractors, who deliver services on behalf of the council, may therefore send you emails from time to time on matters that we think are of importance to you.

This site has security measures in place to protect the loss, misuse, and alteration of the Online Privacy Statement.

Personal information

In order to register and receive or use many of the services on our website, you will be required to submit some personal information, such as your name, postcode, email address and telephone number.

We have a legal duty to ensure that our processes are fair and that we keep your personal data safe and secure, in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulations. The council and its contractors, who deliver services on behalf of the council, do not share your personal information with anybody else without your knowledge, unless we are required by law to do so. An example of this is the Electoral Register, which, by law, must be available to the public.

We will hold your personal information on our systems for as long as it is needed for the service you have requested, and remove it in the event that the purpose has been met, or, in the case of an online information service, such as email alerts or 'Southwark Life', you no longer wish to continue to receive the service.

You can ask for your MySouthwark account to be deleted at any time using our MySouthwark help form.

If you are under 18, please get your parent/guardian's permission before you provide personal information to our website.

Further developments

We are continuing to develop the functionality of our website and its capacity to deliver personalised services. We may, from time to time alert you to new developments or send you details of other services that may be of interest to you. You will always have the option to opt out of receiving these proactive communications at any stage.
