Tenant council

The Tenant council acts as a link between the local area housing forums and the council and advises both on borough wide matters that affect tenants. Tenant council is made up of Southwark council tenants and its membership is appointed annually.

Tenant council is made up of:

  • two delegates and two deputy representatives from each local area housing forum
  • one delegate and one deputy representatives from SGTO
  • councillors with an interest in housing - can speak and give their views but cannot vote

Members of public can attend as observers. Observers can speak but have no voting rights.

Tenant Fund Management Committee (TFMC)

This is a subcommittee of the Tenant Council is responsible for the management of the Tenant Fund.

We set aside a small percentage from every tenant’s monthly rent to support the groups that represent tenants. This fund is managed through the Tenant Council who make recommendations on how the money should be spent.

The funds are allocated to local TRAs and partly to Southwark Group of Tenant Organisations (SGTO), an independent and campaigning body representing the interests of local tenants. Funds are also used to provide training for tenants and resource centres.
