District heating

SELCHP Extension

SELCHP is the South East London Combined Heat and Power facility. It's a waste incinerator in Lewisham borough which generates heat and electricity. We already use some of the heat from SELCHP to heat around 2,650 homes.

In 2019, we undertook a detailed feasibility study investigating the potential to extend the SELCHP heat network west towards the Old Kent Road regeneration area and onwards to some of the large housing estates in Peckham.

The result of the study was that an extension to the SELCHP network was the optimal technical and carbon footprint solution for the area. It should be possible to achieve a financially viable project with a balance of public sector and private sector connections, with capital grant funding being available from the Heat Networks Investment Project (HNIP).

We're now working with Veolia, the operator of the SELCHP facility, and our existing heat network.
