Citizens Advice Southwark Independent advice to Southwark leaseholders
This service is delivered by Citizens Advice Bureau and funded by the council. It provides information and advice to Southwark Council leaseholders and freeholders. This includes casework in areas such as supporting in negotiations to pay service charge debts to the local authority, advocating with the Department for Work and Pensions to pay charges and income maximisation advice. They may also provide representation at first tier tribunal hearings where appropriate.
The aim of the service is:
- leaseholders to have improved access to information about their rights and responsibilities
- leaseholders to feel empowered to exercise their rights
- improve the financial situation of leaseholders to ensure they are in a better financial position to manage their housing costs in the future
- provide representation at county court and tribunal hearings
They take referrals from various advice agencies and other diverse sources including the Home Ownership Unit and local councillors, our message line and project email. Appointments are available at their Bermondsey and Peckham offices. This and other information is available via their website.
