Health conditions and health care
The past two decades brought a significant reduction in all-cause mortality and an increase in life expectancy in Southwark. Improvements in healthy life expectancy, however, have been smaller. Healthy life expectancy in Southwark is lower compared to the national and London averages, with residents spending more than a quarter of their lives in poor health.
Health and healthcare issues are complex and they require complex interventions from both healthcare and public health professionals. By focusing on population health care, public health has an important role to play in improving the value and equity of care, aiming to close the inequalities gap and create healthier communities as part of this process.
Southwark Public Health together with key partners and stakeholders have produced a number of documents identifying the local population needs. Please note that this list will be updated as and when the new information becomes available.
