Things to check before you apply

Free travel from Transport for London (TfL)

Children and young people up to age 18 in full time education can travel for free on London buses and trams.

You can apply online for a Zip Oyster photocard or get a form at a tube station.

What we normally expect of parents and children

Unless there are special circumstances, we expect:

• children under 8 to walk to school if their school is less than 2 miles from home
• children aged 8 and over to walk to school if their school is less than 3 miles from home

• parents to accompany their children to school if they cannot travel on their own
