Do you have a photo from your album that describes your experiences of living in Southwark as a Black person? Perhaps you have one of your first day at school, your first job or moving into your first home?

Southwark Archives is the record office for the London Borough of Southwark. Our records date from mediaeval times to the present day, however, we continuously add to the collections to make them representative of the borough it serves.
One Picture MY STORY will bring together people of Black heritage living in Southwark (or previously living in the borough) and their chosen personal photograph with a connection to Southwark. It could be one of their first school, their parents’ first house, or the first street they lived in. We want to hear the story behind that photograph and why it’s
important to them. We hope to expand on the story of the borough of Southwark and its diverse people.
One Picture MY STORY will be run as friendly and educational reminiscence events both online and in person.
Email your photo to and we will put it on a presentation so that everyone in the group online can see it and you can share your story.
We look forward to seeing you!
