Description

We are excited to announce that Peckham Library's First Friday Club is back. You're all invited to join us every First Friday of the month at 11am in Peckham Library (Pod 1, 5th floor) for a free talk, conference, book presentation or workshop and have a nice cup of tea or coffee and some biscuits as well, all on us!

The stories of the pioneers who arrived on the Empire Windrush helped create a new, inclusive ideal of Britishness, one with strong global roots and a variety of traditions. But the story of Southwark’s Black communities is a lot older than that – one that stretches back more than 1,000 years to a Roman crossroads. Join Southwark borough archivist Patricia Dark for an illustrated talk to celebrate Black History Month and learn more about the borough's earliest Black residents and visitors.
