DescriptionGREAT EXPECTATIONS is a cracking London story with drama, comedy, pathos wand romance that has consistently entertained people for over 150 years.
The themes of Dickens’ novel will resonate deeply with contemporary Londoners of all ages, particularly its examination of class and social mobility, exploration of love and obsession, and the questions it poses as to how we think about family.
Set in mid-Victorian England, it tells of Pip’s impoverished rural childhood, during which he helps a run-away convict and is engaged by the wealthy, eccentric Miss Havisham as a play-thing for her adopted daughter Estella; with whom he falls in love.
An unexpected fortune from a mysterious benefactor propels him, as a young man, into London’s high society where his new status suddenly makes marriage to Estella a real possibility.
Expect a series of dramatic revelations concerning his past, which, unsettle and threaten his future, drawing events to a thrilling conclusion in which Pip discovers his true self.
