Poets in the Archives
A monthly wellbeing session inviting you to be inspired by Southwark’s archives, discover local writers and create new works.
Are you interested in poetry in the local area and learning with others in a relaxed space?
Poets in the Archives is a facilitated group that you can join at any time. You will:
- Be introduced to a Southwark poet, poetry and other archival material
- Write in the company of others and in response to archival material
We meet on the FIRST TUESDAY OF THE MONTH, 5 to 6pm on Zoom. For the meeting link and more information contact firstname.lastname@example.org
We hope to run sessions within Southwark Archives as soon as this is possible.

A welcome back from the summer break and sharing work from a summer task to ‘take a pilgrimage’ in Southwark inspired by Chaucer.
Tuesday 5 October
Celebrating Black History Month looking at ‘The Black Women’s Writers Workshop’ (1991) run by the ALO-WA Oral History Group through archival photos and other material.
Tuesday 2 November
Looking at women’s rights activist Mary Wollstonecraft's connection to Southwark, and her essay ‘“On Poetry, and Our Relish for the Beauties of Nature” to inspire new work.
