Klein Technique™ Stretch and Placement Classes FRIDAY 5 APRIL-FRIDAY 14 JUNE 2019 Fridays, 6.30–8.15 pm 10-week full course £80.00 / £64.00 concessions Drop-in £10.00 / £8.00 concessions To book a place email antonio@kleintechnique.com (Please, note there will be no class on Good Friday 19 April.) *** All levels welcome *** Klein Technique™ is a process-based system of work through which the body is analysed and understood in order to improve and to further movement potential, decrease and heal injuries. The technique was developed by Susan Klein in the early 80’s and has been studied and used by an entire generation of dancers and choreographers, including Trisha Brown, Sasha Waltz and members of their companies. Susan Klein, along with the certified teachers and those working to become certified, is always looking at the body in stillness and in motion to create new ways to explore it and to amplify its capacity to create greater efficiency and therefore to greater ease of movement and expanded movement choices. In the Stretch and Placement classes, we will work slowly, thoughtfully and deliberately; we will work in order to find and improve the body’s connections on the level of the bone; and we will learn to use the deep muscles of postural support (the psoas, the hamstrings, the external hip rotators and the pelvic floor) to integrate our bodies and improve our dynamic posture thus finding more effective ways of moving, dancing and choreographing. “The purpose of Klein Technique™ is education, not on the superficial level of mimicking form, but on a profoundly deep level of understanding the full use of the body as an integral whole to maximize full function of each individual’s unique movement potential. Working from the bones allows one to work from their unique identity, to dance and choreograph from their unique essential self.” (Susan Klein, 2018) The best way to understand what is Klein Technique™ is to experience it first hand. If you’d like to read more about it you can check what Susan Klein says about the technique at the Klein Technique™ website. Teacher: Antonio de la Fe Antonio is a London-based choreographer and performer with a background in physiotherapy and Pilates. Antonio took their first Klein Technique™ workshop with Susan Klein in 2010 and since then they have studied regularly with her. In March 2016, Antonio joined the fourth Klein Technique™ Teacher Certification Program, taking place between New York and Europe. Antonio has been influenced by this work since their first encounter with it. They have applied the concepts and principles of Klein Technique to his own practice and to teaching dance. Since the summer of 2018, Antonio can teach regularly Stretch and Placement classes in London*. To book a place or more information about these classes, please email antonio@kleintechnique.com (*To certify as a Klein Technique™ teacher, participants of the teacher certification program have to add something new to the work. This can only be done after the teachers acquire enough experience and develop their skill through teaching Stretch and Placement classes.)
