Description

Based on materials from Southwark Archives, Heritage Officer Chris Scales talks about the past of LGBTQ communities in the area, from trans residents of the 1820s to the gay liberation campaigns of the late 20th century. He will explore 1960s-1970s pub drag culture and the disco scene pioneered by DJ Tricky Dicky as well as undercover stories of key local groups of the 1980s: the Southwark Sappho Sisters, Peckham Black Women Centre Lesbian Group, Gay Men In Southwark and the Black Lesbian & Gay Centre. This event is free to attend and there is no need to book.
